Trombone lyres are designed to slide over the mouthpiece receiver and support the music suspended above the hand slide. It's not perfect, but if done correctly it gets the job done.
A word of caution: Fitting a lyre to a trombone can be tricky because different brands and models of trombones are often built very differently. For some instruments, you may need to add extra material inside of the tensioning ring to hold the lyre securely - we recommend felt or cork, but in a pinch even masking tape may work. Other instruments may not be able ot use a lyre like this at all - if this is the case, we suggest the Trombone Bell Clamp Lyre shown below.
