Phil Keen currently performs with the Long Beach Symphony, Riverside County Philharmonic, the Fresno Philharmonic and the Monterey Symphony. In addition, he is a member of the Americus Brass Band and the Long Beach Municipal Band. In previous years, he could be found performing in Disneyland Entertainment and touring the country with The Make Believe Brass Quintet.
He has a Bachelor of Music degree from California State University, Long Beach, and a Master's degree in Trombone Performance from the University of Michigan.
Other ensembles he has performed with are the Los Angeles Philharmonic, L.A. Opera, Pacific Symphony, Opera Pacific, Long Beach Opera and many other Southern California orchestras, bands, brass ensembles, ballet and opera companies. He has also recorded soundtracks for many of the major studios in Hollywood.
Presently he maintains a private lesson studio where his students have won positions with SCSBOA and All State Honor Ensembles, the Orange County Youth Symphony, and the Pacific Youth Symphony. Phil is on the faculties of Pomona College, Vanguard University, Golden West College and Long Beach City College. His major teachers were Jeff Reynolds and Dennis Smith of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Loren Marsteller, and John Hollenbeck. Phil specializes on the alto, tenor, and bass trombones and the euphonium and tuba.
