Why choose ABI?

You can count on ABI's expertise.
Customers continue to refer their friends, family and colleagues to ABI as their choice for brass and woodwind instruments, repairs and supplies. Their actions speak louder than our words.

Expert repair service is at the center of our business.
Our repair shop is staffed with full time, experienced brass and woodwind technicians.  Some of the best in the biz (according to the buzz).  ABI's repair department has an extensive parts inventory on site.  Estimates for service are free of charge, and our work is guaranteed.

We refuse to compromise the value of our products or service.
Your confidence in us is too important. At ABI, product selection is always based on quality brands, and we maintain a comprehensive depth of inventory. If our commitment to service has struck a chord with you, then we welcome the opportunity to serve you.

What ABI is .... and is not

bullet

ABI IS a mom and pop music store with 25 years of established, strong, customer loyalty ratings.

bullet

ABI IS a staff of talented, courteous experts in the field of brass and woodwind musical instruments..

bullet

ABI is NOT the place to buy 'gear'. NO guitars, keyboards, drums, amps.

bullet

ABI is NOT an internet catalog, mass-merchandiser, or big box supplier of instruments.

Care and maintenance demonstrations by ABI staff help give young students confidence in the responsibilities of owning a new band instrument... or taking care of a school-loaned one. For reasons of good hygiene, ABI recommends that a new mouthpiece is purchased for your student when using a school or rental instrument.

The continuum of a band instrument
by David Browne

Buying your first band instrument:
A good quality wind instrument, properly maintained, should last a good 50 years with virtually no decrease in playability.

The need to step-up to an intermediate instrument:  After some years, an extremely motivated musician might begin to demand more nuance of tone and response. It's not because the entry level instrument is worn out. That's a false notion.

Buying a pro horn:  Occasionally, the musician who possesses the talent and discipline, plus the benefits of good teaching, may be able to realize the benefits of a true professional instrument.

The Importance of Quality Control

What is our trademark "New Instrument Check/  Shop adjust"?

bullet

Every instrument we receive from the manufacturers is uncrated, unpacked and inspected for concealed damage.

bullet

We then take care of any adjustments ("repairs") or we return the instrument for replacement. At the time of sale, instruments are inspected again by our staff.

Why is our trademark "New Instrument Check" necessary?
There is a twofold purpose.

bullet

First of all, our routine inspection and shop-adjustment protects our customers. Customers are assured of having an instrument that plays the way the factory designed it to play, one they won't struggle to play. And it protects our customers from receiving a defective instrument.

bullet

Secondly, it protects us from selling inferior products because frankly, if we find we have to spend major time adjusting a particular brand of instrument, we will choose not to sell them.

Value Added Retailing

Definition:
"A service intensive retailer held to the highest level of customer satisfaction."

Your hard earned money should be spent on well made products that retain value and are serviceable. We believe it's our job to provide you with the products you need.

VAR at ABI is:

bulletOur customer service team's knowledge of instruments & music making.
bulletHaving good depth and selection of brands and models to choose from.
bulletThe customer's ability to substitute cases or mouthpieces if advised.
bulletAssurance of thorough inspection and necessary shop adjustments .
bulletExpert repair service on site for before, during and after the sale.

It's fair for consumers to simply compare advertised prices of the instrument. But might there be more potential cost ahead (in repair charges or shopping costs or time) that may be unanticipated or undisclosed?

Experience with a capital "E"
"This may sound downright 'un-American', but over here at ABI every instrument is presumed to be guilty until proven innocent."   David Browne

Here's what we know.

bullet Not all instruments are adjusted the same when we receive them from the factory.
bullet It is RARE that we find nothing that needs to be improved before transferring ownership to our customers.
bullet That's true with ALL the consistently good brands of instruments. Even the best built brands need some t.l.c. on occasion to play the way they were intended.
bullet  Our "claim to fame" is that we almost always catch those problems and they are our problem, not our customer's.
bulletAs a rule of thumb, our repair shop minimum charge is $20.
bulletDepending upon the make and instrument type, we might spend $20 up to $40-50 of time to ensure an instrument will play up to its potential.
bulletWhen you buy an instrument from us, that repair cost is not passed along to you in the selling prices of our instruments.

Comparing prices?

bullet

ABI keeps discount pricing in Orange County.
We provide greatly reduced prices every day on our large inventory of instruments and accessories!  We understand that discount pricing is important in order for us to compete and retain your business.

bullet

Will we meet or beat someone's "best deal"?
If you're hunting for price wars, we're not your game. Other companies may operate that way. We're not those companies. They can't be us, and we don't want to be 'them'.

bullet

Honestly, if we desired to "beat the lowest price", we'd have to change our emphasis on quality control. We'd have to charge extra to actually open the boxes, inspect and perform needed shop adjustments. Or maybe we'd have to advertise products we don't actually have in stock just to grab your attention. Or maybe we'd have to hire the pizza delivery guy to assist customers.

ABI's internet presence:

We DO want to use our internet presence to encourage you to do business with us, especially when a trip to ABI isn't practical.  Saving you time and money is important.

When you're ready to purchase an instrument (especially if you're in Southern California), please consider this...  come to ABI and do business the old fashioned way.... person to person.  No hassle. No pressure. Just depth of inventory, everyday discount pricing, quality assurance with excellent service and education departments.

We are happy to ship our products anywhere in the U.S. and around the world. If you choose ABI to supply your music needs, we promise to extend our same excellent quality control and courtesy to you.

Why choose ABI?
Because we take the time to get it right, virtually every time. We're not satisfied unless you're happy with your purchase.

One customer's 'new instrument' sale is not another's reject
Many online discounters move instruments "freely about the country" (to borrow a line from the airlines). The instruments are tried out for a week or two and then shipped back to be resold again.  Be assured that if ABI sells an instrument that has EVER been sold, it is CLEARLY labeled as used or demo.

Why don't we boast about being better than the competition?
Because we don't know if we are. We're too busy minding our own business. We understand our position and we're grateful for the chance to serve you.  We are not doing you a favor. You are doing us a favor by using us as your supplier.

We are servants. We come in and work hard everyday. We're not bigshots... never will be, but that's not because of any lack of effort!

We are grateful that you have a choice and grateful when you choose us.
